Welsh Lovespoons

During the 17th Century the giving of wooden hand-carved gifts to loved ones was common amongst working people, but the gift of the lovespoon originated in Wales. They were given to a woman as an indication of the gentleman's serious intentions. Designs were often influenced by things around him, and soon certain symbols became common carrying a traditional meaning such as these below:-

Single heart - My heart is yours

Double hearts - We feel the same about each other

Celtic knot - Lasting love

Bells - Marriage

Horseshoe - Good luck

Celtic cross - Faith or Marriage

Ball in a cage - Number of children desired or born

These days lovespoons are given as a special gift with a touch of love from Wales. We offer an extensive range of carved lovespoons suitable for many occasions, including weddings, anniversaries and birthdays. Space allowing, we can personalise your wooden lovespoon to make your gift even more special. All spoons are sent in a presentation box which carries the legend of the lovespoon and a list of traditional meanings.
